About the Stormwater Management Program
PROTECTING DEL CITY’S WATERWAYS AND COMMUNITY
The City of Del City’s Stormwater Management Program is dedicated to protecting public health, reducing flood risks, preserving water quality, and ensuring compliance with state and federal stormwater regulations. The Stormwater Administrator manages the City’s stormwater program and works with residents, businesses, contractors, and City departments to protect our community and environment.
Stormwater is rainwater that flows over rooftops, streets, parking lots, and other hard surfaces before entering storm drains, ditches, creeks, and streams. Unlike wastewater from homes and businesses, stormwater is NOT TREATED before it reaches local waterways. Pollutants such as litter, oil, chemicals, fertilizers, grass clippings, sediment, and pet waste can all be carried into our waterways by stormwater runoff.
ONLY RAIN BELONGS IN THE STORM DRAIN.
Mission and Responsibilities
MISSION
The mission of the Stormwater Management Program is to protect and improve water quality, reduce flooding, promote responsible stormwater practices, and ensure Del City’s compliance with environmental regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Stormwater Administrator manages and coordinates Del City’s Stormwater Management Program to protect public safety, improve water quality, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
Responsibilities include:
- Administering Del City’s Municipal Seperate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Program
- Ensuring compliance with Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) stormwater regulations
- Inspecting stormwater infrastructure to identify maintenance needs and drainage deficiencies
- Coordinating repairs and maintenance with Public Works or qualified contractors
- Investigating drainage concerns, flooding issues, and illicit discharges
- Reviewing development and construction projects for stormwater compliance
- Overseeing erosion and sediment control requirements
- Implementing pollution prevention and water quality initiatives
- Providing public education and outreach on stormwater best management practices
- Maintaining records, inspections, and reporting required under the City’s MS4 permit
- Coordinating with City departments, developers, businesses, contractors, and residents to improve stormwater management throughout Del City
Report a Stormwater Concern
Residents can help protect Del City by reporting:
- Clogged storm drains
- Flooding on public streets
- Drainage concerns affecting public property
- Illegal dumping into storm drains, ditches, or waterways
- Water pollution, unusual discoloration, or strong odors in drainage channels
- Sediment leaving construction sites
- Erosion affecting public infrastructure
When reporting a concern, please include the location, a description of the issue, and photographs if available.
How You Can Help
Everyone has a role in protecting Del City’s waterways. You can help by:
- Keeping leaves, grass clippings, and trash out of storm drains
- Cleaning up after pets
- Properly disposing of used oil, paint, chemicals, and household hazardous waste
- Using fertilizers and pesticides responsibly
- Maintaining vehicles to prevent leaks
- Never dumping anything into a storm drain
