The City of Del City values and respects all individuals who serve our community, whether as employees, elected officials, business owners, or residents.
We are aware of recent and ongoing online posts regarding City employees. Unfortunately, these discussions have reached a level that can cause unnecessary hardship for individuals who have chosen to serve the public. Some of the matters being shared involve personal actions taken outside of work that are unrelated to City business or an employee’s official duties. In some cases, these discussions reference personal information that would ordinarily be protected within personnel files. However, because municipal employees are considered public servants, certain information about them is subject to public disclosure under transparency laws.
The City is also aware that some citizens have begun contacting elected officials, demanding responses within specific timeframes and threatening to release personal information if those demands are not met. These actions, which target employees and their families, are deeply concerning, especially when the information involved has no connection to City operations or public service. Such behavior creates unnecessary harm and does not reflect the spirit of respect and community that Del City stands for.
As an employer, the City respects the privacy and dignity of its employees, just as we respect the public’s right to open records. We ask our community to engage respectfully and to remember that public service employees deserve the same courtesy and understanding as all citizens in their personal lives.
We stand by our employees and appreciate their continued dedication to serving the people of Del City with excellence and pride. As always, we will move forward with a focus on respect, accountability, and service to our community.
